The Evolution of Our Decisions

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

‘We cannot live the afternoon of life according to the program of life’s morning; for what in the morning was true will in evening become a lie’ C.G. Jung

I’ve always been a great believer in the importance of being decisive and committing to taking action.  For a long time, I’ve followed the belief that ‘you make a decision, and then you make the decision right’.  This is a great way of thinking for getting into motion, conquering hesitation, and being audacious about personal and organisational goals.  It’s a great way of approaching beginnings.

The In-between Times

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

‘Sometimes we are living in the in-between times:  when we’re no longer who we used to be, but we haven’t yet arrived at our next stage either.’ Marianne Williamson

Are you living in the ‘in-between’ times?  I remember reading this quote about a year ago and thinking ‘That’s me! That’s where I am right now!’  It seems to me that Marianne has a lovely way of summing up what being in a transition is like – we aren’t in the familiar place anymore, and we aren’t fully occupying a new place either.  When I really think about it, I know that I make transitions of this kind all the time, prompted either by external events or internal impulses.  Many times, these transitions are small, and they feel small too, and when this is the case my awareness of the in-between space is limited.

The Velvet Gutter

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Ever wanted to make a change, but not done anything about it?  Ever known exactly what you wanted, yet hesitated when it was offered to you?  What about needing to do something, but procrastinating?

Not making changes is one of those weird self-inflicted games we play.  I remember, when I was working, harbouring an intense desire to leave and start my own business.  This feeling was with me all the time, and it intensified over the – drum roll please – 6 years it took before I did anything about it.  6 years is a LONG time to hold yourself back from something that you really want, so I claim a degree of expertise in this whole business of staying stuck.

What do you LOVE about your work?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
